Another recent offering through Rock Island Auction was a 1930s Mauser assembled 3-line, GENUINE stamped Stoeger Luger, serial number 460V, described by RIA as:an exceptional example of a Stoeger Commercial Contract DWM/Mauser American Eagle Luger Model 06/34 pistol with the full A.F. Stoeger frame and barrel extension markings.

Certain unusual aspects of 460V deserve mention. The receiver left side is correctly DWM/BKIW vertical C/N proofed and the Mauser barrel and breechblock c/c/U proofs do look correct, however, regarding the frame serial number, it may be that the 4 of 460 on the frame front has been mis-struck with the die tilted, as it seems that the top of the 4 is wider/deeper, and the bottom serif simply did not make an impression at all, but the barrel number contradicts this as it is struck into the curve, but still shows no serif. The absence of the serif, if it really is absent, does say it is not the correct die set that made these marks. The frame rail GENUINE stamping letters do not appear to be tightly grouped as compared against other GENUINE stamped examples.

The frame front also does not have the characteristic flattening in the upper part (that bears the serial number) with a definite line transition to the curve round the trigger guard (that bears the V), but looks to be smoothly blended as a continuous curve, which is typical of re-finishing polishing in this area. Also, note the conspicuous absence of the GERMANY export stamp, a US requirement, immediately below the frame serial number.  The frame serial number of 460V is compared against the frame serial numbers of four other authenticated V series Stoeger Lugers, being 405V, 421V, 449V and 454V.

Additionally, 460V is described in The Mauser Parabellum 1930 – 1946 by D. Hallock and Joop van de Kant on page 442 in Table 24-02 titled: Reported 3-line Stoeger Lugers # 400V – 524V (1930 – 1937) , identified as a Palestine gun, hence the frame lack of a GERMANY export stamp, incorrectly listed with a 7.65mm caliber, 4-inch barrel, not a 4¾-inch barrel, and without the added frame rail GENUINE stamping.

In conclusion, although 460V appears to be an otherwise correct 3-line Stoeger marked Luger, with the exception of the added GENUINE frame rail stamping, and other questionable characteristics, such as the lack of a Germany export stamp, normally located just under the frame serial number, is therefore difficult to support as a Stoeger contract Luger, imported and sold through A.F. Stoeger in New York.
